This is an opportunity to work on projects that have a direct impact on operations across New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. You'll work closely with software developers, business stakeholders, architects, analysts, and operational teams to turn ideas into practical solutions that deliver real business value.
We're looking for someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving problems, and thrives in a dynamic environment. You'll be trusted to lead projects from concept to delivery, balancing people, process, technology, and business outcomes.
What to Expect
As an IT Project Manager at Mainfreight, you'll be responsible for delivering a variety of software development, integration, automation, and digital transformation projects. You'll work alongside talented technical and business teams while building strong relationships across our global network.
This role offers the opportunity to

Work closely with software development teams throughout the full project lifecycle.
Engage with business representatives to understand challenges and deliver practical technology solutions.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our project delivery practices, standards, and governance.
Be part of a collaborative, high-performing team that values initiative, accountability, and long-term thinking.
Key Responsibilities
Lead software development and technology projects from initiation through to successful implementation and adoption.
Develop and manage project plans, budgets, timelines, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communications.
Work closely with software engineers, architects, business analysts, and operational teams to ensure successful delivery outcomes.
Facilitate workshops, planning sessions, reviews, and project governance meetings.
Identify and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies while proactively driving resolution.
Maintain clear communication with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across project delivery, software development practices, and team collaboration.
Champion a culture of ownership, teamwork, and customer-focused delivery.
Skills and Experience
We believe attitude, character, and the ability to build relationships are just as important as technical skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
5+ years' experience delivering complex software, digital, or technology projects.
A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and modern technology delivery practices.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously.
Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Experience managing project budgets, schedules, risks, and resources.
The ability to work independently while building strong collaborative relationships across global teams.
Experience in logistics, transport, supply chain, or enterprise environments would be advantageous.
What Makes You Successful
You take ownership and see things through.
You enjoy building strong relationships across technical and business teams.
You are practical, adaptable, and solutions-focused.
You communicate clearly and confidently with people at all levels.
You lead by example and earn trust through your actions.
